Malaspina College council had its eye on Crown Land at Hammond Bay Road and Hwy 19 for the site of a permanent campus. The possibility was no longer viable when the highways department insisted the gravel at the site was needed for road construction.

Malaspina College had its sights fixed on a new and permanent campus on 156 acres of land in Nanaimo on property formerly part of Nanaimo army camp - it is adjacent to where the college's vocational buildings stand.
